Camp Cool Staff*

Mark Bizokas

Mark was a teacher at Charles R. Drew ES when he founded Camp Cool in 2001. From 1998-2001 he taught full-time and was a founding member of Drew's Technology Committee, responsible for securing grants and training staff on the increasing role of technology in the classroom.

In August, Mr. Bizokas will begin the Full Time MBA program at UMD-College Park to acquire business skills to apply at Camp Cool and ultimately, form the curriculum for a private/charter high school focusing on teaching students applied business skills.

Mr. Bizokas is also an avid fan, coach, and player of ice hockey. He has coached lacrosse for Howard County Parks & Recs and ice hockey for Blake High School, Johns Hopkins University and the Tri-City Eagles.

Sam Marvis

Mr. Marvis is finishing his sixth year teaching elementary school. 2011 will be his fifth summer at Camp Cool.

Sam was a heavily recruited high school football athlete from Pittsburgh. He ultimately chose to attend University of Maryland- College Park where he played on the varsity squad while also earning a 4.0 GPA during the 2002-2003 season. He has taught at Drew Elementary and Cloverly Elementary since 2004. In 2010, Mr. Marvis earned his Masters of School Administration from Johns Hopkins University.

Janna Thompson

Ms. Janna Chevon Thompson is a fourth year professor at Coppin University. She is a choreographer and instructor at D.A.N.C.E. Inc.

Ms. Thompson earned her B.F.A. from Howard University and her M.A. from New York University in theatre education. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Morgan State University.

2010 was Ms. Thompson's third summer at Camp Cool.

Janna was also the founder and director of the Southside Educational Touring Theatre Company. She believes theatre is not just a tool for entertainment; it is a vehicle for academic success, social awareness, behavior modification, community enrichment, team building, self-awareness and a healthy emotional outlet.

Debbie Tivvis

Debbie Tivvis is finishing her fifteenth year as a paraeducator in Montgomery County, her twelth at Charles R. Drew ES. Mrs. Tivvis is currently perusing a BA in Education and plans to teach elementary school. 2011 will be Mrs. Tivvis’s eleventh summer at Camp Cool. She is the mastermind behind Spa Days, arts & crafts, and cooking activities at Camp Cool.

Adam Otterbein

Adam Otterbein is a 4th grade teacher at Owings Mills Elementary School. This is his second year teaching. He attended Towson University and graduated with his Bachelors in Elementary Education. Adam is a sports fanatic. His favorite teams are the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens, and the Washington Capitals. He also enjoys spending time at the beach with his friends and family. This is his first year at Camp Cool.
